Cash Card Is Retired - Keno #1418 Rates As The Top Pick

With the retirement of Cash Card, Keno #1418 takes over the top spot thanks to a positive prize ratio of 1.42 and a small prize revenue return of 62%. Three of its Grand Prizes remain to be claimed with an estimated 37% of its float remaining to be sold (1.8 million tickets).

For those players who prefer higher priced games, the next six rated games provide a good array to choose from. A poster last week lamented the loss of a prize of Lucky Aces. Well, even with the loss the game still rates well. I expect that from this bunching of games one will emerge as the game of choice. Only time and randomness will tell.

Comings and Goings

We mourn the loss of Cash Card although I was never able to actually find any to buy! Still, with only one Grand Prize left and an estimated 13% of its float left, one can't argue with the OLG on this one.

There were no new games added thereby reducing the total number of games in play to 26 and the the total estimated number of tickets for sale to 85 million. These numbers are both on the low side and I would expect a number of new games to be added shortly to greet the new school year.

Personal Play

Five Platinum tickets included two winners - each for $10.

For readers who have come looking for CL66's ratings, you can find them on his newly minted blog at http://olgscratchticketguide.blogspot.ca . CL66 has been an important contributor to this blog and I thank him for his contributions.

I also recommend a very useful new site that is currently under development at http://scratchstats.ca . The site provides the visitor with the actual updated odds on current games based upon the preference of the visitor. Visitors are not subjected to the bias of either my evaluation method or CL66's.

Lastly, don't forget the downloadable App that gives you what you can find on the outstanding prize list on your mobile device. Ensuring that Grand Prizes remain to be claimed for the game you are about to buy is almost as important as checking your losing tickets before tossing them away.

I close with a link to a blog that points out that two former OLG Executives have set up consulting companies for the purpose of advising potential bidders for the Modernization of Ontario's gaming sites http://gamingontario.com/?p=113 . I am of two minds on the matter. I'm confident that these two individuals are complying with any post employment guidelines of the Ontario Government. It just puzzles me what advice they are actually providing. How to run a casino? I doubt that very much. How to negotiate the OLG's bidding process? No doubt. Does it sit well with you? Let me know.

  1. Hi Doug!

Funny, I just nabbed a few Cash Cards today. Maybe it's just luck to see them. Same for Lucky Aces, I've seen some stores with bunches of them still.

The scratchstats.ca site is very useful and succinct, a good complement to this one for me. Those guys should get some good traffic. As for the new one by CL66, it is colourful but leaves me scratching my head about what he is up to. His dozens of needless redundant posts here always seemed to me like a fairly obvious and needy issue of narcissism. So far his blog has the same kind of stuff, (plus taking some backhanded shots at you.)
His only 'thoughtful' post was one in which he tried to make a case that it is 'luckier' to buy tickets on certain days of the week (!) What garbage, is all I can say! That's not the sort of stuff I look for to inform my bad, but calculated pasttime with scratch lotteries.

Keep up your thoughtful approach, Doug. The only thing I would change would be to give us more of you, maybe posting weekly. I'll be reading you and scratchstats from here on in.

    1. I buy four $5 tickets a week for fun and get back around 50%, much less than CL66's 70%.

CL66 says he buys 15-35 tickets a week but that means he loses more dollars a year than I do assuming it's 25 $5 tickets.

    2. Anonymous,

I would say that a 50% return on $5 is unlucky. You should reasonably expect 55% or a bit higher. Of course, one win of $50 can bump your results up quickly so maybe you're due for some better luck.

I could not agree more with your comments on CL66. If he's buying 15-35 tickets per week, his results will almost certainly be right on what the small prize percentages are given the large number of plays. He will hit the odd $100 prize but anything larger would still fall into the category of being unlikely.

If he is claiming a 70% return, I would suggest that he improve his results measurements. But even if we accept that number, a 70% return on 25 - $5 tickets still produces a weekly loss of $40 per week which is double your losses.

The key word in your post is "fun". That fun is worth something and there is always the chance, no matter how small, of winning a Grand Prize.

      Thanks for your post.

      Doug

    3. Thanks for the reply Doug.

I'm confused. Maybe someone who knows math can explain how can CL66 win more than me 70% to 50% but lose more than me, double my losses, AT THE SAME TIME?????

If I'm unlucky, is CL66 lucky or not if he losses more than me?????

    4. You are confusing percentages and absolute amounts. $5/$10 is 50% return and $5 lost. $70/$100 is 70% return and $30 lost. Better return but more dollars lost.

Let us accept that CL66's return is 70%. He's betting more, winning more but also losing more to get that 70%.

Unless you are betting the same amount CL66 is betting, how lucky you are is a relative term.

  3. Heard a retailer telling the person in line in front of me about a new lottery coming next month. Not sure how many numbers there are to pick from, but they said you pick 5 numbers plus a bonus number (so this sounded a bit Powerball like, where you actually have to pick the bonus number and can't just hope it's in your line of numbers somewhere).

They said the payout was $1,000 a day or a lump sum of $7 million. I think they mentioned mid-October as a start date, so we'll see if it comes about, or if it's just an idea in the works.

On the subject of information from retailers, I've also heard retailers incorrectly refer to the unclaimed prize list as claimed prizes (0 out of 3 means no prizes have been claimed as opposed to all have been claimed), and I also heard a retailer recently say to someone that they wouldn't play encore on Ontario 49 because the prize is only $10,000 instead of $1,000,000 like it is with 6/49. So, take it with a grain of salt since we do get incorrect information sometimes, but one retailer thought there was a new game coming next month.

    1. That's a good one. Zero of three means that none of the prizes have been claimed. I have great respect for convenience store retailers but they're not always right about such things.

  4. There is and your right sounds like powerball a bit, $3 a play and you can add encore for $1, looks interesting draws are held monday and thursday. It's called Daily Grand

  7. Anyone have any idea if OLG will still have their "double cash for life" scratch lottery ticket? I was a fan of these tickets and they seem only to have these terrible new 10 prizes cash for life ticket that seem to have a long run.

    1. Not sure about that Yuki but I'm sure that the Double version will be used again at some point. The current CFL game is poor and I'm hoping that it gets retired soon. Maybe then....

  8. Now now, Anon. I'm still not convinced that the odd prize is tossed your way just to keep you buying tickets.

  9. Interesting indicators are out there of a decline in sales and a demographic shortall looming for OLG. Last night's Max draw only sold $37 million. And I had a chuckle looking at the latest page of pics of OLG prize winners. Of the 24 photos, I'd say about 16 looked like they could be over 60 years old. The Sick Kids lottery closed its sales yesterday, undersold. The PMHF and Cancer Society lotteries are also undersold right now. Other charity lotteries have cancelled their draws in the last year as well. A steady decline in sales looks like the future for lotteries.
