Cash For Life #1167 Sits Firmly on Top

The $2 off tickets are being cashed en mass as the game of choice sold almost 400,000 tickets last week but the sole remaining Grand Prize is still outstanding. Oddly, your chances to win the Grand Prize are almost identical to the new version of the game issued this week at 1.5 million to one. Why then am I recommending the earlier version? Well, the older version has a small prize ( < $100) return rate of 57.1% whereas the new game's comparable rate is 53.3%. Further, the odds against winning a top prize of any description are 1 in 6,933 for the old game versus 1 in 46,310 for the new game. Yes, those 10 Grand Prizes look juicy but don't be deceived. The old game still has 19% of its float left (+/- 1%) and thus should be readily available.

Comings and Goings

Lots of activity this week with two games deleted and three new ones added.

The terrible 10X The Money was mercifully deleted along with Aces and 8's which was popular in some corners but I never cottoned to it.

New on the scene is a new Crossword game which should be avoided as long as its concurrent sister version is still on sale. A new Cash For Life with 10 Grand Prizes is on the scene but, again, I prefer the older version. An odd aspect of the game is that the game sheet claims that 67.76% of the revenue is returned to players but when one adds up all the prizes on the game sheet it comes out to 64.9%. Is that $2 off coupon sticking its nose in this game too?

Lastly, the much anticipated $30 - $250 Golden Treasures came on line. I have never seen a game quite like it. Only 28.9% of the revenue is returned to winners of less than $100. Of course, a $100 win is the same as a $10 win for a $3 game. There's lots of money to be won but the comments from posters indicate that this community is not going to be a big consumer of the game unless spouses are picking them up for Christmas presents. I'll be tracking sales closely on the game. $30 is a lot for a scratch ticket.

Personal Play

Nothing to report.

Post Script

Thanks to Randy who's research skills determined that one of the frequent Pro-Line winners was also previously convicted of possession of $150,000 of marijuana. I'm guessing that represents more than personal use.

From the file of "Anything that can happen, will happen" we have this story from California:
http://or-politics.com/u-s-world/lucky-guy-man-wins-the-lottery-twice-in-one-hour/204285/ .

And here is a mess of a story: http://www.guelphmercury.com/sports-story/6156476-province-trots-out-online-horse-themed-gambling-product/ . Now, understand that the OLG had the welfare of the horse racing industry rammed down its gullet but this is very lame. They hired a new vice-president, Cal Bricker, who was recruited from a waste management company. He's in charge of the horse racing file? And their first volley is a slot machine for which "It is unknown whether the horse-racing industry will get a cut of the gaming revenue from Fire Horse or will only stand to gain from additional exposure and the link to bet on the races."

Good lord! I have some news for Mr. Bricker - horse racing has been going on in Ontario since before confederation. Ontarians do not need a web page on the insidious www.playolg.ca site to "introduce" them to horse racing. How insulting.

I have an idea for Cal. Google the "Irish Sweepstakes" if you want an idea as to how lottery gaming and horse racing can be linked. Everything old is new again.

I will be here and there for the next couple of weeks and may miss an update. If that happens, I'll still be reading your posts so keep them coming.

I just posted this in the comment section of the last post but I wasnt sure if people would check that and I thought it would be cool to start this comment section off with a win, lol.

I just won $25 on a bingo ticket from the gift pack this morning, got the T on the second square.

Good luck everyone, lets fill the comments of this post with our winners from this week, lol

    2. Mike Tyson Says This Man is a LEGEND

      Hey there,

You gotta see this... Richard Lustig won the lottery so many times that even Mike Tyson is even hanging out with this guy.

That's right... Mike Tyson was pictured with Richard Lustig multiple times, the world's only 7 time lotto game grand prize winner.

The word is.. Richard is personally coaching Mike Tyson how to win the lotto multiple times like he did.

  4. Doug, Do you remember the guy who won the lotto 6/49 twice in the same year back in 2007? He won the Jackpot of $15 Million, along with a secondary win of $340,500. This is out of the news article for what he said on how to win:

"A northern Ontario man says the trick to winning the lottery - twice - is to develop a system.

"You have to play diligently and stick to it," said restaurant owner, who has won big at Lotto 6-49 twice this year.

That's a funny system. I play ever lottery draw for 6/49 and lotto max ( 3x per week currently). Haven't missed a draw in nearly 12 years and the most I ever won was $105 on lotto max lol. I got the first 5 out of 7 numbers.

  5. A great question is....why is it always the elderly folk who keep winning the lottery jackpots and scratch ticket grand prizes? Let see...high unemployment rate among youth ages 18-29, enormous education tuition debt. What young person could really afford to shell out $30 for a scratch ticket (250 million)...that's easily a nice dinner out at a restaurant with friends. Also, I bet soon enough we will see lotto 649 and lotto max prices increase per play. Pretty soon the lottery will only be for the mid-upper class people.

    1. The elderly are a weird section of players I think, there are alot of them, many of them have been playing for the majority of their lives and havent won anything, theyre sprinkled all over the country, I think it just boils down to them playing more / being more dedicated ( I have friends that only play when the jackpots are high).

The only way I could see the max price going up would be if they included a guaranteed draw for that too, people seem to be pretty sensitive to price increases from the OLG, and as far as the $30 ticket goes im expecting it to be a stinker, Ive been in 2 different stores now and heard 4 different people on different occasions turn it down saying its too expensive, Im not sure if the cashiers are told to push them but they keep recommending them to people and people keep acting like the cashier just asked them if they could eat one of their kids.

Bought a poker lotto ticket at 7:22:53 this evening....Terminal powered off and rebooted. I'm like what the fudge, did I win? Ticket printed out and saw no winner. Check online 30 minutes later and saw RF won in Scarborough....Son of beeswaxes.

    2 gift pack purchased....won nothing...Bought two green CFL....won $4.
2 Lotto Max...won $20. Rolled that onto next week.

    1. Wow. Damn. So close. You were like within 60 seconds of the winning ticket generation. I like this lotto game but I despise the sound effects that the terminal makes when you lose. It's like a slap in the face.

    2. omg man i feel for you, that is pretty crazy, thankfully ive never had that happen, I dont know why id rather be way off then seemingly as close as you could possibly get but damn, thats on a whole other level.

Whats that saying about horseshoes and hand grenades, lol, if that happened to me it might be just enough to get me to quit.

      Delete
    3. Not sure why being close to someone else's win means anything at all. It's randomly generated each time... someone can get royal flush when the jackpot is 2k or 200k

      Delete
    4. I dont think its randomly generated, going by how many times the royal flush actually appears vs the odds they state on the website, it happens more frequently than it should. I find the poker lotto to be pretty interesting, since its one of the few games where we can see atleast some actual purchases, since the All-In feature goes up a dollar everytime someone plays, if the pot reaches 150k that means 140k people played the all in (since the jackpot begins at 10k).

If you check the "All-In prize tracker" part on the site, working backwards from the jackpot that won, and adding in every royal flush + straight flush that takes away from it, it looks like close to 350k tickets were sold with the all in feature before someone hit a royal flush, but before that you see a few 5k wins almost in a row.

They state the royal flush odds as 1 in 649k which are close to actual deck probabilities in real life, but looking at the site it seems to go far more frequently.

Though you cant really account for non All-in tickets that are sold since theres no way to tell how many of them were sold, Id find it hard to believe that the majority of people dont pay that extra dollar, though there do seem to be quite a few people since you do see many royal flushes that only pay 5k.

Im more of the belief that it is not entirely random, there is some type of control in play, either to make a royal flush or certain larger payouts occur at certain times, or after a certain amount of tickets have been sold, I think it works more like a slot machine, where they have some control over the outcome, so a machine doesnt hit 2 or 3 jackpots in a row.

With all of these games (lotto terminals / slot machines) being networked and talking to some machine on the OLGs end, im pretty sure there is something at play to keep it from paying out too frequently or not paying out for a long time.

    5. I fully agree Jason. Hence why I publish my 7 seconds of near satisfaction. There was 18 straight flush so a Royal was bound to hit. Whether it be on a time or city that is predetermined, I don't know. But I did bought $25+ worth of Poker that day.

Most likely, if it's predetermined then the next Royal Flush jackpot should hit in about 2-3 weeks. There is a pattern. Anyone can crack it keep it to themselves....just kidding, share it here.

      Delete
    6. Here's one pattern, don't buy a Poker Lotto ticket in London, nobody ever wins gets the Straight or Royal Flushes here. Not since I've been paying attention anyway, LOL

  13. Does anyone know why the Lottario odds to match all 6 numbers are 1 in 4,072,530? But for 6/49 and Ontario 49 its 1 in 13,983,816. Shouldn't the odds be the same? I'm giving the scratch tickets a break and considering a new lotto to play, maybe even the poker one.

    1. 649 has 49 numbers which has 14mil combinations and you get 1 line per play.
Lottario has 45 numbers which has 8mil combinations and you get 2 lines per play.

      1 in 14mil for 649.
1 in 4mil for Lottario. (reduced from 2 in 8mil)

  14. This is for all the CFL players here. Would you rather:

    Quebec's version of CFL:

    $100,000 per year/ 1.5 lump sum
    $20 per ticket
odds of winning are 1 in 300,000.

    Ontario's version of CFL:

    $1000 per week/ $675,000 lump sum
    Cost $4 per ticket
odds of winning are 1 in 1.5 million

  15. Cash For Life, huh? I've always been curious about this game, as it raises some profound questions about money and financial self-management.

Would you take the weekly payout, or cash in for the lump sum? If you are 65+, you can make an argument that improves with age to take the payout, about $675,000. It would take you about 13 years to get the same amount from the stipend, not accounting for potential lost interest and other opportunity costs of not having the lump sum immediately, so for seniors a lump sum may well beat the value of money over more time.

But with lump sums, especially those that seem big but are not really (like $675,000 - though of course I'd be happy to take it!) humans have quite the tendency to piss it all away. Probably abut 90% today would plunge all that money into a real estate "investment". (And would surely lose about half of that in the impending housing bubble implosion that is just around the corner for places like Canada and Australia.)

For solid financial planning, taking the weekly payout would make a lot more sense for most. Instead of saddling oneself with dubious "assets" like a new condo in TO or a townhouse in Milton, you can buy yourself the most valuable asset of all - time. Even on a modest $4333 per month, most of us could live well, pay our bills, rent or leftover mortgage/repairs/taxes etc... and chill out. Work only if we want to, less if we have any other investments, pensions etc... Perhaps, though, such leisure would be too unsettling for many, forcing them to confront those existential questions about how to live the time of their lives, rather than just following the herd and buying property and stuff. (There's a reason a 'mort-gage' is literally a 'contract until death' - it means you don't have to be bothered ever thinking about alternatives!)

So it's interesting to see that whenever these Cash For Life prizes get claimed, I almost always read that the winner took the lump sum. Even youngsters in their 20s or so who have won have taken the lump sum. That's a real tragedy I think, and they are losing control of the time of the rest of their lives for the sake of immediate gains.

I note that the OLG game site lists pics and names of winners of "$1000 a week for life", but if you look at the winners lists or other media reports, they all seem to have actually taken the lump sum.

So to conclude this unexpected Sunday philosophy circle, I am curious to know.....

    What would YOU do?

Take the lump sum? Or take the weekly payout?

    Why?

    1. Thanks for posting this, I've wondered the same thing many times.

I'd likely take the lump sum. I'm pretty savvy with personal finance and I have enough discipline to know that $675K isn't enough to retire on, but would need to be invested wisely. And who knows what the future holds? What if OLG folds and stops paying? What if $1000 a week is pocket change in the future? I guess if those two things happen there are bigger problems, but I'd rather have the sure thing and secure my family's future.

    2. I'm assuming that 'Cash for Life' means for 25 years? Also, if someone takes the weekly amount and they pass away, does the remainder of the money go to a family member or is it cut off?

Regardless, I would be taking the lump sum. The amount of $675,000 or 1.5 million is not enough in this day to retire on, most people who win these cash for life games will still go on to work and keep their 9-5 job. I have a feeling the majority of these winners use the lump sum to pay off debt (house, vehicle etc).

For me If I won, I would take the lump sum and still work my current job. I would pay off my mortgage so I own my house and the bank does not own it and I would pay off my vehicle. In this case, I don't owe anybody anything. Basically, all I would have to do is buy food and clothes and all of the money earned from work/remaining money left over I could use to entertainment purposes such as trips, sporting events etc. I would easily be able to live comfortably.

Also another reason for me choosing the lump sum is the fact that if you won, its a once in a lifetime opportunity, you might as well enjoy it now because who knows, you might not be around tomorrow.

    3. I don't think I've ever seen the rules posted any for the cash for life so it's a lot of guessing and assumptions based on similar games elsewhere.

If you take the annuity it is good for at least 20 years. If you die the estate gets the payments until year 20. It's also not clear if it is for life or 20 or 25 years. Also it's possible the annuity is taxed and the lump sum isn't and that is why people take the single payment. It like comes out to a similar amount just get it at once. I will have to wait until I win to talk to the olg people.

  16. Well I have played countless Crossword Triplers over the past year, winning countless $5, $10, $15, $20 and even $30 prizes. I've also won a $60 and a $75.

Just now I went out to scoop up a wild card or two, a gift pack and on a whim grabbed a tripler. Got $10 on one wild card (haven't scratched the gift pack yet) and a thrilling $300 win on the Tripler!!! 6 black words at $100 with a TRIPLE!!! I am so excited. Here's a pic!

    2. That is awesome, Ill be honest whenever I get those ive taken to scratching the tripler part last because I remember the last game I think it was every tripler I got was a dud, lol, I only remember winning without it.

We should all have a race to 1k, Im curious though, for anyone that has won over 1k before, how did you claim it? Sometimes I feel like id just try mailing it but then Id be worried it would get lost or something, then I think itd be nice to make a day of it, take the train to Toronto to claim it.

Of course for certain ranges of winnings you could just go to a casino, which might be closer for alot of people.

    3. Jason, I won on a pro-line hockey pool back in 2007, I won $4003.00. I'm from the Ottawa area, so I claimed mine through mailing and had no problems at all. I think if the prize is $10K or more, you have to go to the prize center in Toronto, I could be mistaken on the prize limit though.

Perhaps next week on the blog I will post a picture of my winning ticket, I still kept everything to show people who didn't believe me.

There is no change compared to previous versions of this game, so expect results to be the same as before. You can have a win doubled or tripled. Odds for a doubled win are 1 in 15 with 97% of this being $6 or $10. Odds for a tripled win are 1 in 34 (for $3 Frosty Tripler it's 1 in 23) with 94% of this being $9 or $15. I rate $3 Scrabble 46/100 making it 18th out of all 31 games and 7th out of the 11 $3 tickets.

    3. lol, the only time JayDee doesn't play poker lotto, two royal/str8 flushes happen in his city...too funny!

I noticed the 2nd spectacular GP was won in Toronto area yet again just like the 1st one...Why do I even bother playing scratch tickets in the Ottawa area LOL. Also in regards to the holiday gift pack...I have a feeling most of the major prizes are sitting in peoples stocking/under the tree, I bet soon as the holidays are over, all the GP's will be gone haha. This is probably why no one has claimed any major prizes and why its still on the top of CL66's list.

On another note, another Holiday 6/49 Super Draw December 23 & 26, except this time its 4 additional guaranteed 1 million dollar prizes instead of a bunch of little prizes.

My weekly scratch money is going towards lotto max, so no 250 million or extreme million purchasing for me. Good luck people's and may the maxmillions force be with you.

  23. Wow, as Doug has alluded to, some sports players see to be raking it in. Check out the winners list on OLG today. Same guy from Innisfil I have seen many times before raked in about $250,000 yesterday on about a dozen pro-picks bets the last week or so.

My problem is that having been a sort of Leafs fan for the last three decades has given me the sports IQ of a hockey puck. Too dumb to recognize a winner now.....

    2. Does no one else find this fishy? The same guy cashed in $54,653.70 in Pro Line and Pro Picks tickets on November 9th. And if you Google his name, one of the results shows that he's been doing this since at least summer of 2014.

      Delete
    3. he cashed a bunch more in on Nov 9th also, lol.

Im not sure how it does the draw dates, is it the closing date of the earliest match, or is it the end of the last match on the ticket?

Im assuming it was either pools or point spread, since the other options would give you weird totals instead of the uniform ones that hes won on.

We gotta get into this guys, this dude knows something we dont lol.

    6. Him and people like him who are able to do this successfully enough times to pose a threat to the OLG are probably a very small percentage of people, when I read the FAQs on a couple of their games there is actually a limit of some sort set to prevent people from doing things like this and gaming the system too much.

Q14. IS THERE A LIMIT ON THE PRIZES THAT PRO•LINE WILL PAY?
Yes, but the limits for prizes are well above what has ever been won, and so we don't expect to have to invoke these limits. For each of the sports games, the maximum we will pay in a day is $5 million plus two times the sales for those tickets for which the final event takes place that day. The most we will pay on any individual sports game ticket is $600,000. The most a player can spend on sports is unchanged at $100 per day for each of PRO•LINE and POINT SPREAD.

Q13. IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE WAGERS THAT PRO•LINE WILL ACCEPT?
Yes. We have various controls in order to protect the financial integrity of PRO•LINE. These controls include the limits on PRO•LINE sales to individual customers, daily maximums for each retail account, and maximum payouts. We must be able to limit the financial risk. For individual customers, the limit is $100 wagered for both PRO•LINE and POINT SPREAD on any one day.

Im not sure how they enforce this, but they seem to have atleast some of their bases covered when it comes to this kind of game.

      Delete
    7. He is mainly a pools player.
It is a pool of money from players that the OLG keeps 40% of .....there is no cap or limitations on the size of the pool or prizes.

The only limitations on a pools player is the joke of a rule that never gets enforced,, that is the max transaction of $100 per player per visit...its a joke of a rule that is impossible to enforce.

This guy I think is possibly a "meth cook" and found a creative way too launder his cash...he certainly is going around betting $5 on a pools ticket like me ..lol.

On pools if any of you have played ...you can box 4 games for $80 which means for a ten game ticket he can choose to cancel out four games he doesn't like..My $5 wager means I need to get all ten right compared to his six..And if he wants too box 5 games he can pay another $80 and play the other side on a fifth game for a total wager of $160.......box 4 =$80...box 5=$160...box 6 =$320..7=$640..and so on.

With enough cash you can buy the whole pool...but be careful because some pools when there's a lot of winners splitting the prizes you can still win yet still lose money..lol..

Oh and the guy you're all speaking of ....don't forget that there are many more pools tickets this guy wins that aren't showing on the prizes over $1k page. ...He will have many more prizes ranging between $100 upto $999.

There is lots of info on the web you just need too find it..
Try Google ,OLG pools strategy, tons of info..proline sucks is a site that talks specifically about OLG sports offerings. .

Olg caps the pointspread and proline because they're scared of someone cleaning them out on some big wagers...lol..it has happened before in the earlier days....but Pools are wide open pedal to the metal , no limits (other than your $100 per visit rule lol) bigger is better for olg because they keep 40 cents on every dollar wagered..

And yeah the guy from innisfill is either a smart MO FO playing the averages or hes a meth cook driving around in a Winnebago portable cooking lab...

      Delete
    8. Darth, you can only box up to a maximum of 4 games for $80. I don't where you are getting box 7 games for $640?..that does not exist.

      Delete
    9. BOX ALL THE GAMES, FREE WIN

      Delete
    10. Box 5 games you simply buy two $80 tickets...box your 4 games and play both tickets identically but choose a fifth game and on ticket #1 play the vistor side and on ticket #2 play the home side.
      2 ×$80= $160

      Delete
    11. The boxing of 5 or more pools games should be googled by anyone interested for a better explanation/example.
For 5 game boxed is 2 x $80 tickets.a fifth game is played on both sides.

For 6 games boxed it involves buying 4 -$80 tickets with two games played on both sides.4x $80 =$320

Box 7 games requires more work as you have to play 3
games on both sides and buy eight $80 tickets for a cost of $640.

With a big bankroll you can buy yourself a winner. ..but even though your ticket is a winner you could still be losing money if you spend $640 and only win $300..so you only play the larger pools like Sunday football specifically and some of the NHL pools are decent. .avoid the soccer as they are small usually ..

I've never won a pools that's worth mentioning and I don't have the bankroll to go boxing games the way that some players do...specifically the person we are referring to..

Interesting topic, hopefully I've helped shed some light on how some people have frequently shown up on the over $1k winner pages with multiple and frequent propicks/pools winner tickets.

      Delete
    12. Why doesnt everyone do this then? You would surely make more than 640 back if you boxed say 7 games

      Delete
    13. What?..you can still lose your whole wager.
Or if you check some past pools prizes there are plenty that are less than $500 .
There are a few over $10k and those are the ones you need to hit and 3 lucky people won the sunday nfl pool for just over $200k each although they had to pick 15 games correctly.

For me I just play $5 pools tickets. .although I've been tempted to try a box 3 gamer for $40 I still haven't tried it..Its very difficult to choose 3winners never mind 6 or more lol..

    14. It looks like football is the only pool that guy could have won that kind of money in, since the soccer and hockey prizes seem to look more like this:

      8 of 9 share Prize $27.40, 128 Winners.

I only saw one football pool in the results, it was over 200k but split between the winners, olg probably isnt worried about going broke from these guys betting on sports any time soon.

      Delete
    15. I'm sure the OLG isn't worried about a measley $200K when the lotto max jackpot is 55 million + 12 max million. Think of how many people are buying tickets for tonight.

  30. Just wanted to report back to everyone what I did with my $300 ($295;) winnings. I put $160 in my piggy bank, spent $40 on more tix which sustained me for a few days until that roll died out. Best thing I did though, was donate $100 to an organization/cause that is very important to me. And the best part is that they are matching donations, dollar for dollar for all of December, so my $100 gift turned into $200! :)

Thanks CL66 for the newest stats and continued good luck to everybody...:)

Your an angel Uplifter! - i admire your kindness and generosity which will make a positive difference in someones life - an act usually reserved for christmas or an occasion for ones closest to us - the world would be a better place if more of us would do such without reason or expectation to benefit someone we may not even know - karma will see you again, continued good luck and have a Merry Christmas! 4. Aww...thank you CL66! I'm at that stage of life where making a difference is more fulfilling to me than just buying more stuff. In fact, one of the reasons I started this scratch ticket game is so that when I win I CAN be better positioned to make a difference. Happy holidays to you and everyone here! :)

  31. look at all the d0nuts for the old CFL on the prize page. I have a feeling that somebody has already won the last prize and just has not validated the ticket yet. They are seeking financial help. or the OLG will just retire the game keeping the grand prize like always.

And buying the holiday gift pack is like buying a guinea pig, nobody wants the damn thing. Also, CL66 clearly ranks holiday gift pack #1 because it has all grand prizes remaining.

My number crunch summary compiles 11 categories, the highest being odds at $50k+, i don't factor in grand prizes by themselves at all, never have and i never will.

My trust has been earned by many on here for my weekly "crunch" and other posts for almost 2 years now - these haters and conspiracy nuts serve to only amuse me at the most.

  32. I'm not the 'anon theory' guy, but I just found this information on the Quebec lotto website. The lotto 649 jackpot was won in Laurentides on November 28 and it was $19.6 million. They stated it is " the eighth Laurentides resident to win a million dollars or more since April 1, 2015, bringing the region’s total to nearly $45 million."

I don't know about everyone else, but this 'anon theory' guy seems to be correct about everything. I'm starting to believe his conspiracy theory is true. It is pretty damn impossible to have that many different millionaires in the same area in the span of 7 months. I believe these prizes are not randomly distributed. Something fishy is definitely going on with the lottery these days.

I don't beleive anything this "anon" guys says (O_o) - the lotto indudtry is a multi billion $ industry HEAVILY regulated and overseen by the government - it would be totally idiotic to put it at risk by doing something "fishy" - the only benefit in "prize targeting" is if your the one who wins it! lol.

  34. $10 Instant Gift Pack: Why i rate it #3

In all my categories except grand prize (12/13):
    - top 8 in 8 of them
    - top 4 in 6 of them
    - top 4 in the top 5 $ categories

    Of all 31 games it's:
    - #2 on odds to win any prize
    - #8 on odds to win 2x+ on your $
    - #8 on odds to win 8-10x+ on your $
    - #2 on odds to win $100 or more
    - #4 on odds to win $250 or more
    - #2 on odds to win $1,000 or more
    - #1 on odds to win $5,000+
    - #2 on odds to win $50,000+

Having 6 tickets within it gives it high entertainment value and the $2 coupon means it essentially costs $8. Even with all these positives, my overall score is 66/100, which is good, but clearly not great.

    1. Thnx for the updated odds cl66.
I'm glad you pointed out the value in the $2 coupon on the gift packs. . how I view the gift pack is that it's an $8 game because I play the $4 cfl so the coupon has value..
On another note my retailer that last year let me use the coupon for credit towards any scratch game no longer lets me do this.He says because its $2 off a CFL it makes it different in his system than last years free $2 cfl...lol...good for you if your retailer lets you credit it towards what ever you choose..

    3. Ive been getting gift packs for the "entertainment value" as you said, I think this is why Bingo and Crossword tickets are so popular since if you get a Wild Card or that Tripling 7s youre done in about a minute, if that.

Me and my girlfriend take a gift pack and share it and its been pretty fun, weve won 20-25 bucks here and there, still nowhere near breaking even but I feel like if these were all Diamond tickets they would be significantly less fun to play.

Scratching match 3 games in 15 seconds and then losing feels like I'm literally throwing money in the garbage.

I enjoy the cards that at least provide some entertainment and suspense and the illusion of having invested in something, like crosswords, bingos or the gift packs! Good luck! ;)

    6. I'm the opposite. Reason why I hate the gift pack:

-I spend 20 minutes scratching all these ridiculous tickets...and I win nothing...I feel like I just lost 20 minutes of my life I will never get back.

I'm a fan of the match 3 games, at least if I lose, it's quick and less painful and I only wasted 15 seconds haha

    - 27% of all prizes and 1 of 6 grand prize were claimed before christmas.
    - 32% of all prizes and 2 of 6 grand prize were claimed from after christmas to a few days after new years day.
-18% of all prizes were claimed after then till the games retirement on February 9th including1 grand prize that was claimed 4 weeks after christmas.
    - 23% of all prizes and 1 grand prize were unclaimed.

    With this years gift pack:
    - an estimated 20% of tickets have been sold and no grand prizes have been claimed as of yet.
    - an estimated 40% of sales will occur in the week leading up to christmas as that's when most people who buy such as a small gift do so.
    - odds then for a grand prize make it attractive to buy now.

Myself, my christmas tree goes up today, as i have only bought 3 presents so far lol and IF i even get any scratch tickets to give as a present, i wouldn't do till after the 20th.

Did you know...there have been more lotto max $50 million plus jackpots won in the past year.....compared to the rest of lotto max's existence. CONSPIRACY THEORY!

Only plus side to next weeks draw...is that you will have a much better chance at winning 1 million dollars or more compared to any of the grand prizes for CFL, Extreme, or Golden. All of my scratch ticket money is going to lotto max again.

The prairies is by far the least populated and is struggling bad financially. I find it funny how they have been cleaning up on the lottery/scratch tickets lately.

The reason why Ottawa doesn't get any grand prizes is because its a government city and the OLG is government. So, if Ottawa cleaned up a lottery like that, people would be even more suspicious and the rest of Canada would be complaining about it.

So therefore, this will most likely never happen again as long as we live.

@johnny cash, at least you sold a couple GP's and a maxmillions prize, like I said my retailer of 35 years only sold one $5K prize. Lets just say that store is bad luck to the extreme lol.

  40. With greater than ten thousand retailers in Ont. And every retailer had 6 maybe more clerks then that doesn't leave very many grand prizes to divide amongst say 60,000 people that routinely sell olg products.

And why are people picking on our prairies neighbours. .lol..they get left out enough that I feel they were due for a few decent prizes...lol..I'm not surprised if the rest of the country is sick of seeing Ontario and Quebec taking all the biggest jackpots.

    3. Thanks Randy, good to know. Also, I would like to state that 3 of 5 Spectacular Grand Prizes have been in the Toronto area...did they forget about the rest of Ontario??

I have also noticed a lot of Poker Lotto Inside winners. I remember Jason and another person saying that they believe "poker lotto is not randomly generated based on the statistics." I think this is true, meaning we are at a significant disadvantage. I guarantee that soon as the pot reaches a certain limit and the people working at the retailers see that, they will start buying up tickets.

I dont think retailers should be allowed to play tickets, I know that kind of sucks for those people but they wouldnt have to deal with "insider wins" if insiders werent allowed to win.

The OLG is like the only place where workers are allowed to win, any other contest says you and your family cant be an employee of whatever company is doing the contest.

Seems a little strange that if you want to win a hat from a contest you cant be an employee of that company but if you wanna win a few million dollars from the OLG then working there is perfectly fine, lol.

  42. Got $100 Flush yesterday...woo hoo. I will buy twice a day at 3 lines each + free play and all in when jackpot over $100k. So $18-20/day. 3 times a retailer told me that I was off from a straight flush after buying my tickets. They said, "ooh....you were like 3-5 minutes off. You almost had it." Although it was in a different city, it might just be on a time event where it hits a SF or RF. We will see one or two RF without someone buying the all-in. Since the All-in started I won about 5 flush, 1 quad, 1 full house and several straight. So the $1 investment is well worth it.

For me, never buying the $30 ticket. Don't care if 1 in 10 odds for $100. And all other tickets not worth it now. 6/49 and Max this week.

    1. I look at the poker lotto kind of like a pinata, where a bunch of people are hitting it and whatever comes out when you hit it you get to keep, since all of these terminals are networked together I dont think where you buy the ticket is as important as how many you buy.

You do see alot of people winning in the gta, but I assume thats because they have so many people swinging at the pinata, lol.

  43. THUMBS UP to the BCLC and ILC for sticking to their rules and not allowing those lotto max $50 million winners to pull a fast one on us. I find it hilarious how they went through the troubles of trying to claim the prize through a trust to remain anonymous. Now those winners have received more attention than ever. I would say that the joke is on them after losing $500K in interest, 1.5 years of sleepless nights, and a failed attempt at trying to screw the system....but in reality the joke is on us all....because that's our money they won hahah.

Don't buy a lottery ticket if you can't handle the media attention...plain and simple.

Now if the OLG could stop prize targeting with their instant tickets, I would consider being their friend.

He was one of the three winners who shared a $618k pool on Sunday football. He correctly picked all 15 winners. .lol..I wonder how many games he boxed..lol..there's gonna be some buzz about him on some of the sports betting forums and theories about his system. .

I also noticed his winner ticket was purchased at a petro canada retailer ..lol..he likely spends enough on olg that he sees the value in the petro points as thats the only place that I know of where there is an incentive program on olg products. .lol..I'm sure he gets enough points accumulated for free gas/oil changes and new tires..

Good for him..he's pulling amazing winners..

    1. Damn, I got to a petro sometimes and the lady always asks me if I have a card, I should get one and just get my tickets there all the time, even if you lose you get something atleast

      Delete
    2. you can actually also get a card attached to your petro-points card that gets you $0.05 off per litre of gas for every $1 you spend on lottery.
i buy for a pool weekly and i have two cards activated with close to 2,000 litres on each.
i swipe it for the people in line behind me to save them 5 cents per litre off their gas purchase.
-fingers crossed that karma helps with my lottery plays- Lolz

  48. $5 Wild Card has had it's last grand prize claimed - the game will now be deactivated, meaning sealed packs of tickets can no longer be activated - while retailers will be informed to immediately remove all loose tickets from sale until the OLG reclaims them, some may continue to offer them - it is OLG policy to immediately deactivate a game when all of it's grand prizes of $100,000 or more have been claimed - $5 Jackpot is the new ticket set to replace it and will be available on Monday.

  49. 16-Dec-15 08:10 AM DOCKSIDE VARIETY 153 MAIN ST WELLINGTON $5,000.00

Always hurts to see this, especially when the jackpot is up over 100k, I dont know what I would do if that happened to me, must feel like a punch in the gut when it happens and it has happened quite a few times.

Wellington isnt too far from my hometown, I used to work in a meat packing place there, then it burnt to the ground after I left, I wore a hooded sweater and the guy told me "You might not want to wear that cause people play jokes and put meat pieces in peoples hoods" Im glad I left cause I didnt know what kind of meat was coming down the conveyor belt and if I ever did I dont think I could eat it to this day, I wanna say it was chicken but I cant be too sure, it was pretty gross anyway.

What is everyones theory about the 5k wins on the poker? Theyre royal flushes without going All In, I always assume theyre free tickets that someone doesnt have the dollar on them, it must sting pretty bad to hit that without paying a buck, lol.

Ive actually gone and got a poker ticket at the store here and the girl messed it up and didnt put All In even though I asked and paid for it, luckily Ive never won on the few times it has happened but I assume youd be screwed out of the win right?

    1. I've never played poker lotto before. So you're saying if that guy paid the extra dollar, he would of won $100K instead of 5K? If so, that guy must feel stupid for being so damn cheap lol.

      Delete
    2. Yeah if you pay the $1 you get more money on some of the instant wins, up to the $20 instant prize its the same as not going all in, but after that for the next 3 levels it doubles the prize, the second top prize is 10% of the jackpot (which right now would be 13k) and the top prize which that guy would have won is 100% of the jackpot.

but yeah, if you dont pay the extra dollar and go "all in" anyone that does that and hits the royal flush gets 5k instead of 100% of the jackpot, its happened to many times.

Though keep in mind that 130k is the 10k starting amount +$1 for every person that did go all in and didnt get the royal flush, so 120,000 people lost a dollar playing, but still, to have that happen must feel like a pretty big "F*#$ me" when it happens, especially if you have a dollar on you at the time and just decided not to play it.

    3. must be torture for the clerks when people don't go all in when the amount gets high

    1. Thanks for this CL66. Question: when you do these crunches, do you account for insider wins posted at OLG as well? In that case, for example, the Holiday Spectacular grand prize chance might be only about 1 in 350,000 since there is a recently posted insider win.

      Delete
    2. I thought he went by the unclaimed prizes list, where some of the higher priced tickets dont update immediately, Im sure the next number crunch he does would include that since it would be reflected in the unclaimed prizes list, good eye though, I dont play enough high priced tickets to keep an eye on those, lol.

      Delete
    3. I clearly state every time "...from info on the OLG unclaimed prize page as of ...", this is the ONLY basis i use as there is no posted statement by the OLG that an insider win is ever withheld from the "u.p.p." - in my opinion, the term "insider" win is misleading as it implies an unfairness - a part timer at a tiny store in a far off place earning low wages could buy a ticket of something elsewhere and win and this would be an "insider win", yet they could be more deserving than most - so an insider win to me is of no relevance whatsoever - i check the u.p.p. multiple times every day and always post updates on my ratings due to any significant wins.

    4. Thanks for that clarification, CL66.

My experience, albeit anecdotal, from checking over many days/weeks when only one major prize has been won and an insider report issued, has been that insider wins ARE withheld from the unclaimed prize list, which would make it appear to have more outstanding prizes than there actually are. But it's worth doing a double check, so I will try that on one of the new Ontario-only games sometime soon.

I agree that insider wins seem particularly cumbersome when someone has a brother-in-law etc... who works in a store across the province, and nothing to do with a win.

On the other hand, I had a nice winner once that was under $2000 but over $1000, so I had to go to downtown Toronto to claim it. I had bought a lot of lotto tickets over a few months and only checked them all together many weeks later.

They gave me a really hard time, albeit friendly, insisting that I had to identify exactly the store where it had been bought. (Don't know if they can/would make the same demands for a big scratch winner - anyone have experience?) So I had to guess where I might have bought it, while they checked on Google street view or something for the retailers, and I finally nailed the exact one. Took over half a hour, and I wondered what if I hadn't been able to remember...? Pretty tough grilling for a small prize for a non-insider.

I left with my cheque, but wanting to scream at OLG! After all, the only persistent problems OLG has had with winners have been due to insiders, retailers ripping off customers over the last twenty years. Cases of infighting among group winners, couples etc... do happen, but are much rarer than outright insider thefts. The report issued a few years back showed just how mathematically improbable it was that so many OLG insiders had been winners over the previous decade.

It would be interesting to see any breakdown on whether insider scammers had any edge on scratch tickets, or merely stole winning lotto tickets from customers for the most part.

So the enforcement of rules, including ones that receive little publicity in OLG promo materials, is rather mystifying at best. I guess insiders have to take their share of the pain as well.

In the meantime, I suggest everyone make a note of where they buy tickets if they are buying a lot, in case they get lucky and have to face an interrogation like mine!

    5. Thnx for the info on claiming a prize at OLG main office.

My work involves travel all around south western ont. And like yourself sometimes I have a couple weeks worth of lottos that I checked all at once and feel if I was ever blessed with a large prize I would have a difficult time remembering where I bought the actual winner ticket.

    1. TY CL for this blog, it does help. Guided me to my win yesterday of $150 on 10GP. The $2 coupon hasn't landed me a win yet but i'm +130 on 4 plays which is good. I'm due for any win on CFL. Gonna try again today at a different store. Just a hunch that if I get a decent win one place, it's a good idea to switch locations for a shot at the same game.

    2. Your welcome, tho thanks should be shared with Doug, as the father of this blog, along with the regular posters here - together we are able to validate the blogs title of "Scratch & Win Ticket Advice" - It is definately better to switch locations after a decent win if trying the same game - the odds for that $150 were 1 in 150, so the odds to win the same prize at the same retailer are 1 in 150x150, or 1 in 22,500.

    1. I think anonymous is an OLG plant here to collect information / playing trends, and also to throw out crazy theories to see if anyone will bite, also trying to convince people to buy $300 worth of lotto max tickets, lol, nice try.

      Delete
    2. I think the anon theory guy is just some bored person who posts to stir the pot.
I think he posts then replies too his own posts thanking himself for posting.
Whatever floats his boat I guess.

  59. I'm very sure Lotto Max is rigged. Here is why. Last night they took 4 hours to post the winning numbers. Why so long? Well because in those 4 hours OLG is drawing numbers and finding winning combinations that were sold. Once they find out those winning numbers they then post numbers that NOBODY actually won. This way they generate millions of dollars in profit and stealing millions of people's hard earned money every week. If OLG is really honest then they should draw numbers LIVE every night so Canadians can actually see that your not cheating Canada with your fraud called Lotto Max. In the U.S, powerball is shown live and it doesn't take 4 hours to show them a draw. It takes 2 minutes to show a live draw. OLG is a fraud... they take 4 hours every Friday to find winning combinations that actually were sold then they manipulate another draw where nobody wins... complete fraud and complete waste of money for hard working Canadians.

    2. olg doesn't draw the numbers....
      its the interprovincial lottery corp.......

but i don't know where the draws take place and who does it..
      my guess somewhere in toronto.....

    3. actually only the lottomax main draw is done by the traditional 'bouncing-ball drop'
all the maxmillions are draw using a random # generator.

  60. The real 'anon theory' here. So, @anon above, the lottery draws can be watched on the OLG website. Also, the reason why it took so long to post the results is because of the additional max millions draws.

I would also like to take credit for the recent poker lotto win in London, poker lotto and max million win in Ottawa. I'm trying to bring big prizes to those in the areas requested. I can guarantee you that another max million will be won in Ottawa on next weeks draw.

As for the instant scratch ticket 'prize targeting', I'm in the works of bringing grand prizes to Ottawa area. 250 million has been selling well, its on pace for selling a $1000 dollar winning ticket per day.

    3. i know i posted this, but, here it is again;
only the main lottomax draw is done using the 'falling balls'

all the maxmillions are 'drawn' using a random # generator.
that can't take very long at all!

  62. I'm glad someone posted that the draw videos are available online. I was going to post that, but then I figured the response would be something like they tape a few different ones, see which combination of numbers has no winning tickets, and then use that one as the official winning numbers. lol

  64. I see that Classic White 2 just lost another $500,000 grand prize yesterday in Ontario near Huntsville. If that is only updated weekly, this suggests we are down to only 1 grand prize let for this one.

Funny how perceptions differ - it always seems to me that the scratch grand prizes like this are disproportionately won by people outside of Toronto, yet others insist Toronto gets more than its share.
