I am as surprised as anyone that Fruit Explosion remains on the outstanding prize list seeing how far we are past its deactivation date. But it remains there and two commentators have posted that they found tickets on their travels. Your chances to win the last remaining Grand Prize of $75,000 are now 192,000:1. This is the lowest of any game for sale ( Wild 10's excluded). Thirteen cents of every dollar spent on the game will go to that lucky winner (if there ever is one). At the outset of the game, only 2.9 cents of every dollar was directed to Grand Prizes. Your chance to win any prize greater than the cost of the ticket is 1:6.81 tickets which is not great. 12.9% of the game's revenue is returned to winners of the cost of the ticket. That reduces your chances to win a prize of any sort to 1:3.84 tickets, which is very good. The trouble is, I don't consider winning my $3 back as winning. I'd be happier if the OLG was to convert all of those $3 winners to more $5 winners. Let me know if you agree by posting a comment.
How does one know that Christmas is approaching? The OLG introduces its suite of Holiday games. Stuff those stockings with scratch tickets folks. No games were retired. Here is the rundown on new games. Please see CL66's comments on these games for a detailed breakdown of prizes.
$2 Holiday Cashout #1812 - Not a bad $2 game. Your chances to win one of the three Grand Prizes is 1:850,000 which is the poorest for the $1 - $2 group of games. But, the percentage of revenue return to $2 winners is only 8.1% which is the lowest for any game currently for sale. As a result, the 47% of revenue returned to winners of more than $2 and less than $100 is very good.
$3 Holly Jolly Tripler #1815 - The 4.7% of revenue returned to winners of $100 or more is good for a $3 game. Otherwise, not much to recommend at the moment.
$5 Merry Money Multiplier #1814 - A welcome addition to the $5 group of games. 7 - $100,000 Grand Prizes combined with a good cash rate gives this game potential. May buy a few this week just to see how I like it.
$10 Holiday Spectacular #1816 - The game begins play with an overall rating of being the 5th best game for sale. Pretty darned good, I'd say. The low Grand Prize of $250,000 for a $10 game is offset by the low ticket float of 840,000 tickets. In addition to the 1:280,000 chance to win a Grand Prize, 3.9% of the revenue goes to winners of at least $100 and less than the Grand Prize. This is 4th overall. Cadillac leads in this category but a poster informed us that you may get more than you bargained for in that game as the car ain't exactly free. The overall cash rate of 1:3.30 is third best overall.
$3 Instant Keno #1415 - Not much to recommend here. A ticket float of 5 million with only 5 Grand Prizes of only $50,000 each is enough to turn me off right away. The best aspect of the game is 50.1 % of revenue returned to winners of more than $3 and less than $100. I recommend its sister game #1414 if you really have to have a Keno ticket.
In summary, the Holiday Games are good choices with the exception of the $3 edition.
This article also caught my attention: http://bit.ly/11c0Izm . The main plank of the OLG's Modernization Plan is to privatize parts of its operation. The private operator will invest in the network and thereby increase sales. The OLG will then receive a smaller cut of a much bigger pie that will overall return more money to the Provincial Treasury than is presently the case. I'm not convinced that this will be the outcome and the above article may indicate why.
The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month takes place tomorrow. I'll be thinking about my Great Uncle Charlie.

None. My pursuit of Fruit Explosion tickets was ultimately fruitless. Moving on, starting this week.Meanderings
Heard a guest on the radio this morning from Carlton University whose class is testing the upcoming OLG online gaming site. I have to accept that buying 649 and Lotto Max or Pro-Line online is not a bad idea but I am not a fan of on-line Poker or on-line Slot Machines. They have the potential to create far too much damage to people's lives. On the plus side, at least players will know that the games are on the up-and-up unlike current offshore sites. The odds may suck but you're not being literally robbed. This article also caught my attention: http://bit.ly/11c0Izm . Ranks 21st on winning 2x-5x your $ or better
Ranks 14th on winning a ticket price back
Ranks 7th on winning any prize
The lowest float i have ever seen, with only 840,000 tickets. $10 Wild 10's was low at 1.4 million, so this game won`t be around long for certain. The top prize of 3 x $100,000 comes at the 2nd best odds out of all games to win an amount of $50,000+. After the top 5 prizes, it takes a HUGE nosedive as the most you can win is $145! That's right, there are NO prizes from $150 till you get to that 1 $25,000 prize. This game is set to really only give you small wins of $10 to $50. The odds to win more than $50 are 161:1. I rate this ticket as 59/100, making it 10th out of 30 games and 3rd out of the 4 $10 tickets. In my view, for $10, your better off with any of the other $10 tickets as they offer MUCH more with prizes. I'd also say your $10 is better off with some of the $5 or even $3 tickets than this game.
I'll wait and see what happens to spectacular. If the float gets reduced signifigantly and all the big prizes are still there I'll throw a few $$ at these tickets.
ReplyDeleteThnx for updates Doug snd CL
..gl everyone
CL66,
ReplyDeleteIn your paragraph you have indicated that Grand Prize is $100,000. It is $250,000 as indicated at the beginning of the review.
The game returns 8.9% of its revenue to the three Grand Prize winners. That is second among $10 games to Wild 10's. It also returns 3.9% to winners of $100 or more and less that the Grand Prize. That is 4th of all games. Cadillac dominates in that measure but that game is very weak on Grand Prizes.
Your point about the jump from a $145 prize all the way up to $25,000 is well taken but for my money it is a game with good top prizes and lots of small prizes. From within its group I rate it well ahead of Cadillac and Extraordinary. If, as Darth indicates, its Grand Prizes remain unsold, this game has the potential to become a top choice.
Think I'll buy a couple tomorrow just to test the waters. Best.
Doug
Oops! Thanks for the correction Doug! We know the difference between us is in how much value we place upon grand prizes. I am quite disapointed with what Spectacular has to offer for a $10 ticket. Cadillac offered 41,735 prizes of $100 or more, upon it's release. Spectacular has only 1.937. Granted, Spectacular has a MUCH lower print run, at about 1/8th of Cadillac, but why does it have only 1/21.5 as many $100+ prizes. A $50+ win on Cadillac is 1 in 18 while Spectacular is 1 in 33. I see this game as similiar to KENO, good for 1-2x your $ but little else. Even tho i have "dissed" this game, lol, i bought one yesterday and won $20.
Delete"The OLG will then receive a smaller cut of a much bigger pie that will overall return more money to the Provincial Treasury than is presently the case." Funny how they haven't figured this out for beer sales in corner stores.....
ReplyDeleteAs for my play, haven't tried the new Christmas ones, although the GF did and broke even on the 3$ Tripler.
I just have enjoyed a couple of Caddy's which have left me $10 ahead. Finally back in the win column after a couple loss weeks.
Have a great Remembrance Day everyone. I won't be thinking of someone specifically myself as I have so many in the family who have both served and died in battle. That said, to everyone on here, Lest we forget.
Cadillac and $2 CFL both lost a grand prize since yesterday. .
ReplyDeleteAlso theres another $3 crossword
game just released. .they're rolling games out like crazy lately.
Thanks for the update Darth. Was just heading out to do some damage.
ReplyDeleteHalf the Float is sold? What does this mean? I'm new to all this. Also, I saw on OLG website that previous Cash for life (before Bonus CFL) tickets still had an outstanding grand prize winner unclaimed. Is it worth it to look for the older version of this?
ReplyDeleteFloat means total amount of tickets printed..and we estimate the amount of tickets sold/remaining to try and play tickets that have decent float to grandprize ratio..
DeleteI believe I play more bonus cfl than anyone else who posts here so in my expert opinion..lol..I wouldn't touch them..stick with bonus CFL is my opinion. .but go with your gut..all grand prizes are crazy odds but some are better than others...GL
Half float sold means all the tickets produced are half or 50% sold out..I believe it's closer to 60% sold now..but it took a hit yesterday and some lucky person is happy dancing today....sadly it wasn't me...but im sure trying. .
DeleteBonus CFL finally lost a grand prize...with the float nearing 60% sold im going to keep plugging away at them..
ReplyDeleteAlso crossword tripler lost another grand prize
merry money multiplier also gave up a grand prize.
Scrabble back soon..release date Dec 01
Couple more days and $5 20xlucky is back..
gl everyone
Having 4 grand prizes remaining for about 40% of the float is still pretty solid, a lot better than most other scratch cards get to. Where they keep them in circulation with 1 or sometimes even 0 grand prizes left with that amount of tickets to be sold.
DeleteBought 2 earlier in the week, won $16 ($12 and $4). Going to go with 4 more tickets.

ReplyDeleteBought 3 cadillac and hit a $50..
Rolled that into 4 spectacular and
crapped out..played 7 of the big
tickets for a $20 out of pocket cost.
or $2.85 per ticket..I'm rather impressed ..lol
Bought a pair yesterday of caddys and hit a $10 and a $50 as well. First time ever getting a wheel.

It's nice to see a few of you getting wins on Cadillac, since it is the game i have rated as #1 since it's debut. The Spectacular i won the $50 on, was a 2nd choice, as i had intended to get a Wild 10's, but they were no longer available.
Nice wins AJ and CL..anytime you show a net profit from OLG is great...for me I'm happy at break even or even a small loss is great ..lol..
Deletenot sure what I'm picking up yet today but it will include holly jolly as that's my wifes new favorite game..
Tried more $10 games today:
ReplyDelete1 wild 10s -win $20
5 spectacular -win $10
Spend $60 Win $30..not great..
thats the first wild 10s I ever bought ,there was lots available so I picked one up on a whim..also wife hit a $10 win from 3 holly jolly.
Spectacular im at one $10 win for nine tickets played...sigh..

All available prizes and odds to win:
any prize - 1 in 4.21
$10 or more - 1 in 6.86
$15 or more - 1 in 8.38
$20 or more - 1 in 11.54

$500 or more - 1 in 13,868
$1,000 or more - 1 in 127,826
$100,000 - 1 in 420,000
Out of all 29 games:
Ranks 5th on winning $50,000+
Ranks 17th on winning $5,000+
Ranks 17th on winning $1,000+
Ranks 1st on winning $250+
Ranks 12th on winning $50+
Ranks 3rd on winning 2x-5x your $ or better
Ranks 27th on winning a ticket price back
Ranks 29th on winning any prize
The good news: this ticket ranks #1 at winning 3 or 4 times your $ on. It also ranks #1 at winning $250+ on. The 7 grand prizes of $100,000 have good starting odds, making it 5th on chances for a $50,000+ win. The bad news, is that out of all 29 games, this is the worst game for odds of winning any prize at. All other play is somewhat below average. The OLG seems to becoming even more of a miser with recent games. This one has only 23 prizes worth more than $500 within almost 3 million printed tickets. I rate this game as 52/100, making it 11th overall and 5th out of the 6 $5 tickets.
I've been playing Spectacular exclusively and have been hitting tough to get odds. I am not up in this game but have re-rolled these into more tickets going for the top prizes. Maybe it's the low float but this game seems a bit of an anomaly.
ReplyDelete$70 ($20 + $15 + $15 + $10 + $10) 1/1250
$100, 1/500
$50, 1/68
$45 ($20 + $15 + $10) 1/833
$50 ($30 + $20) 1/111
$30 1/100
Not sure how many tickets you've played..but im guessing by rolling your wins over into more tickets you're likely paying less than $3 a ticket (out of pocket cost)...I'd keep playing them also if you can maintain those results...feel free to post a photo of your nicest wins ..I enjoy looking at nice prize tickets and I pay attention to ticket #s and where there placed in packs..
DeleteGL on your quest
Here's my unsatisfactory results for my wife and myself on all are scratch games for the last 7 days:
ReplyDelete25 $2cfl win- $51
7 holly jolly win-$10
39 bonus cfl win -$40
1 wild 10s win-$20
3 cadillac win -$50
9 spectacular win-$10
Total spent $357
Total won__$181
Total lost__$176
Total return of 51%
Poor results, but I guess it balances out because in the end the house always wins and my last few weeks were an acceptable
return.
Bonus CFL was absolutely horrible. .never hit any $20 winners this week. .and the new game unspectacular hurt my overall return ..but the $2cfl was decent with a $1 profit..lol..
GL everyone
Gl Darth, you're due to pull a rare one.
DeleteI'll take photos of bigger wins from now on. I did get another $50 this morning with the gift box.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a few more at another store and found out that they still have 2 packs of fruit explosion available (activated). I don't really like that game but feel compelled to dig away at them to see if a major prize is there. How many major prizes were left before it was pulled from the site?
http://www.olg.ca/lotteries/games/viewInstantTicketInfo.do
ReplyDeleteHere's a link from the unclaimed prize page dated Nov 02..shortly before fruit explosion disapeared.
Ok that link doesn't work..
DeleteFruit explosion on Nov 09:
1 75k
2 25k
1 10k
6 1k
hope that helps
I found the last "number crunch" entry i had for Fruit Explosion - from November 8th - Darth's figures on the top prizes were right on - at that time, there were 190,000 remaining tickets - so with only 10 prizes worth more than $124 last known to be available, it's a long shot to win anything significant - if i happened upon them, i wouldnt bother.
DeleteI have now gone 4 for 4 on Spectacular
ReplyDeletehttp://s196.photobucket.com/user/one9six6/library/?sort=3&page=1
I said earlier on, i wasn't expecting to do well with this game after my review dissed it - but my first try last tuesday won $20, 2nd try last friday won $50, and now one i got yesterday won $10 and today i picked up another which won $50 - these 4 tickets i got from 4 different locations - even tho my stats may tell me a game isn't that good, i always try a few before i rule it out completely - my sense tells me i was just lucky and to slow down on these - it also brings to mind tho, the theory of an inordinate amount of small wins upon a games release as a means to entice further game play...
oofa my bad - that $10 win was actually $20 - lol - $40 cost with $140 won = $100 profit ^_^
DeleteNice wins on spectacular CL..I think who ever was buying tickets after me was likely hitting some nice little wins as I was clearing out
ReplyDeletethe trash tickets for them.lol.
At 20 tickets per pack for the $10 games it appears there's no bias where decent winner's are placed in packs...but ive played enough bonus cfl and noticed the middle of the packs seem to be a dead zone for anything decent.. (try and avoid #20 upto #49) all my $20 and higher wins were near the beginning or end of packs. This week with bonus CFL I was just grabbing $20 worth of random tickets throughout the week not paying attention to ticket #s and likely had one of my worst returns ever for that game..25% return from Bcfl. .sigh..

ReplyDeleteHere's a pic for some slot players..lol..I received a stern lecture from an attendant for taking a pic of their machine.
I was alternating between $1 and $3 a spin and on a $3 spin I hit a bunch of bonus spins and results were sweet....this pic is about a year old ..
Looks like one of the $100 million Fortune's are gone to a local man here on Ottawa's west end:
ReplyDeletehttp://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/carp-man-wins-1m-in-lottery-1.2105546
He certainly never cleaned up for his media pictures, he looks like homeless person, good for him
DeleteLol I know eh. Altho I think It's smart. Reminds me of the Duck Dynasty folks who mentioned once that if they ever wanted to disappear, all they'd have to do is shave their beards and wear suits.
DeleteAnyway I hope he enjoys his newfound winnings as it sounds like he'll be off to a good start
Anyone have any idea on how much of the float is left on Cadillac Riches? Do you have to call the OLG to get info on remaining float? I checked around on the OLG website and don't see anything pertaining to this. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe OLG will have no answer to that question. Float numbers are estimated based upon the number of top prizes listed on the Outstanding Prize list. We take the number left versus the number at the outset and use that as a proxy for the entire pool.
ReplyDeleteAt present, 56% of the float is left for the game +/- 6%. That translates to roughly 3.6 million tickets. Good luck.
