Holiday Spectacular #1816 Moves To The Top

Bonus Cash For Life surrendered the fourth of its five Grand Prizes last week knocking it out of top spot again. Twenty percent of the Grand Prizes remain with only an estimated 12% of the float left to sell. The game is coming to an end soon.

Replacing it at the top is Holiday Spectacular. It is in a similar situation with only one of its three Grand Prizes left and an estimated 12% of its float left to sell. Posters have indicated that these tickets are hard to find. In raw terms, only 100,000 are left versus 1.2 million Bonus Cash for Lifes so I can well understand how difficult they are to find. If you can find some, almost twenty-four cents of every dollar you spend on the game will go to the outstanding Grand Prize and you should expect a return of 60% on the dollar even if you don't find that big prize of $250,000.

HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR

Top Rated Games

  1. $10 Holiday Spectacular #1816 - Only one GP left - check before buying.
  2. $4 Bonus Cash For Life #1168 - Again, only one GP remaining.
  3. $4 Cash For Life #1161 - Same comment as the first two games.
  4. $10 Fortune #1779 - Slow selling Inter Provincial game. Worth a try.
  5. $4 Double Cash For Life #1170 - Promising game.

Games to Avoid

  1. $3 More Lucky Lines #1794 - Please make it stop.
  2. $3 Crossword #3206 - Two prizes of more than $100 left and 1.3 million tickets.
  3. $1 Lucky Lines #1770 - A truly horrible game.
  4. $3 Crossword #3207 - Two Grand Prizes of 10 left, but over 7 million tickets too.
  5. $3 Keno #1415 - 52% of top prize money remains but 72% of the tickets remain.

$1 - $2 Game Update

Holiday Cashout is the best choice, by far, in this area.

$3 Game Update

Top rated game is Scrabble #1821.

$4 - $5 Game Update

Lots of good choices here. Avoid Hit Jackpot and Merry Money.

$10 - $20 Game Update

Avoid Instant Gift Pack and Classic Ruby.

Comings and Goings

Not much action here. Cash In was retired as OLG policy dictates. All the Grand Prizes had been claimed and the Grand Prize was $100,000.

A post to last week's update indicates that a new game is coming soon for those who are bored with the current offerings.

Personal Play

I am in transition at present in terms of my evaluation method. As such, I am expanding my play to various games and was rewarded last week when I hit for $20 on 20X Lucky on the only ticket I bought, and another $20 on Bonus Cash For Life. (3 purchased). Three Crossword Triplers included 1 - $5 winner and my Lottomax ticket went pfft, as one would expect.

I'm looking at playing a combination of games again this week.

In Conclusion

I'm curious to know what readers thoughts are about this story: http://bit.ly/1uJ0YxF .

A friend and I are of differing opinions. He sides with the player and I do not. What do you think?

  1. Technically, the ticket is for the next draw since it's processed late. Too bad. He had a week to buy the tickets. Store clerk 'saying' 1 minute left is meaningless as he/she could've rounded it up even though there's only 40seconds left.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Quite a few interesting points to this story. The plaintiff, Mr. Ifergan, says the contract was entered prior to the cut-off time. True. But the contract was completed after the cut-off time when he finally receives his ticket (receipt) and pays for it. What the article doesn't mention is that he was made aware by the clerk that the second ticket was for the next week's draw. He accepted that fact even though that's not what he initially wanted. Thus, he accepted the new conditions of the contract for the second ticket. If this was truly what he is fighting against, he never should have accepted the second ticket. If he had won the next week's draw, would he refuse the prize because of this?

He blames the delay in the processing procedure. That's a valid complaint but not a valid reason. If a fugitive goes free and is expected to disappear by midnight and a cop is delayed in getting a warrant signed by a judge in time for whatever reason, there's no way to catch the fugitive. Delays are a part of the system in this case.

Ultimately, you need the winning conditions: the right game played (ie. you can't use the Lotto Max numbers to check your 6/49 ticket -- duh!) with the winning combination for the right draw. If you're not holding on to the ticket with these conditions met, you haven't won (the top prize).

I feel for the man but can't see how he could have won his case.

  3. my week started average with 3 CFL winning $4 but I just picked up a Fortune & Bejeweled and both won $20. I'll take it.

As for the story. I'm assuming they were quick picks so if he had got the ticket sooner the rng would have spit out a different combo of numbers. He got a ticket for the next draw.

    1. I believe his point/claim was that his combination was generated before 9:00pm (ie. the RNG did generate the winning combination) but because of the processing delays, was registered in the computer and printed past the deadline.

    1. Under $1,000 you can cash the ticket at a store provided they have the money available. Anything over $1,000 requires you to fill out some forms. $1,000-10,000 you can mail it yourself. $1,000-$250,000 you can go to your nearest OLG slots or casino and they will courier it.

However, over $10,000 you still need an interview but they will come to the OLG site if you don't want to travel to Toronto. It just will takes a few weeks instead of a few hours to get your money if you don't go down.

  15. Hi Everyone..
I've found the $5.00 Merry Money Multipliers and so far they've been good to me I've bought 11 so far and am up 15.00 so I'm happy with that. I also found some Wild 10's and bought won today and won 3 times on the one card for a total of 120.00 which was awesome, they have more of them so I may buy a few more.
Spectaculars found them as well bought 2 today and both were duds so not sure if I'll buy anymore of them.
I've had a great week with tickets now if one of us could win Lotto Max....
Thanks CL66 for telling us about the Merry Multipliers or I wouldn't have even bothered with them.

Hi Shelley - i`m happy to see anyone do well on games i rate as worthy - your fortunate to have been able to play these 3 games as of late, as for me, i haven't seen them in my area for a month - Spectacular + Merry Money Multiplier were dropped by the OLG today so you might not to get to play them for much longer - Doug is high on Spectacular because of the odds on winning it's top 2 remaining prizes, me, i wouldn't bother even playing it - the 3rd most you can win on that game is $145 and odds are about 160:1 to win more than $50.

    2. Hi CL66
I'm going to stick with the Merry Money Multiplier and see how I do, thanks again for the tip CL66 maybe I'll buy a few Cadillac's as well. The place where I bought the Merry Money Multiplier and the Spectacular was interesting. They had packed them in a envelope to send back to OLG even tho they were activated and I was persistent and told them I wanted to buy them and the guy just didn't believe me that there still allowed to sell them so he made me wait and phoned OLG while I listened and the OLG rep told him yes he could sell me the tickets and she told him that if any were left in 6 weeks to send them back. The store owner was shocked that I was right and he finally let me buy the tickets but it was like pulling teeth until the all mighty OLG gave him the approval....lol I was like a dog with a bone and I wasn't leaving without those tickets....lol I'm blaming my actions on the Full Moon today.
It amazes me how ignorant store owners can be and they really seem to not care at all, I love educating them though, some listen and most don't care at all but they should since they make money when we win a good size prize.
I bought 2 more wild 10's but I'm going to wait till tomorrow to scratch them. One store I was at today had some purple Cash-Ins are there still grand prizes left on them? I have no clue how to use drop-box I have pictures on my phone of my Holly Jolly win and I apologize for not sending a picture through.
      Good luck to Everyone.

    3. Atleast the store owner was kind enough to call olg..They are under a lot of scrutiny and rules they have to abide by under the threat of losing their olg operating licence. .And my local friend with a small town store says the olg games draw customers into his store which is makes great business for him..
You're having decent luck finding the rarer tickets Shelley. As for purple cashin game I seem to think it was a dud for the big prizes near the end, but it was a good game for hitting $25 wins.

    4. Hi Darth Vader
You are so correct about the stores following the OLG rules to a tee but I went to the same store today and the owner who is a woman Thanked me for explaining things too her since she had no idea at all and she has to wait an entire month to be credited for the activated packs I told her she might as well sell them since there's still good size prices left to be won with these tickets, she has a lot of tickets that she activated and instead of sending them back has put them out for sale. She still has the 10.00 Gift packs as well and I may buy them in the next few days. This store is like 30 mins from my place so it won't be a daily excursion to get to this store...lol
Good luck Darth when you start playing again.

  19. Hey everyone, Just came across this blog. I have been playing the Double Cash for Life and the 200 Million Extraordinaire frequently. I always keep track of everything, every time I scratch a ticket, I write the bar code and what the payout was. I thought I would share my experiences with both of these.

To this date, I have bought 25 of the 200 Million Extraordinaire tickets. (I have won prizes on 11 out of 25 tickets. A maximum prize of $60 and the minimum $20). My thoughts on this game, since it is an inter-provincial game and a scratch ticket costing $20 a pop, you are almost better off to spend that $20 on a lottery ticket.

As for the Double Cash for Life, I have always loved these games for some reason. However, other than the Grand prize, the other prizes are significantly weaker than the Bonus Cash for Life. But let's face it, we all play for the Grand Prize anyways.

To this date, I have bought 25 of the Double Cash for Life tickets. (Winning prizes on 6 out of 25 tickets, A maximum prize of $12 and the minimum $4).

Does anyone know how to figure out the float remaining for tickets or how to find that information? I know on OLG it shows the 'Unclaimed bigger prizes' remaining. I am curious because the 200 Million Extraordinaire has been out for a long time, even though its inter-provincial, a lot of the big prizes remain (probably because no one wants to pay $20 for a scratch ticket).

    1. Anonymous,
We extrapolate the number of tickets left to be sold by multiplying the percentage of top prizes claims (as listed on the OS prize list) to the original float size. The more listed prizes, the more accurate the estimate.

In the case of Extraordinaire, as of last week, 360 of 567 top prizes had been claimed. That is 63% of the tickets left to be claimed (+/- 4%, 19 times in 20). The original float was 15,066,500 tickets. The estimate of remaining tickets is therefore 9,566,032.

This game has been on sale since early April and has been the benefactor of TV media campaigns. In the end, it's tough to sell $20 tickets.

Thanks for measuring and reporting your results. Hope you continue to visit the blog.

    2. D-CFL is, like you said, pretty much for the top prize. As CL66 has previously posted, 99.3% of the prizes are for $12 and below, 29.7% of the prizes being $12. For the most part, unless you're buying thousands of tickets this will be your most likely result. Hence my focus on small prize returns (D-CFL,1-in-3.73 (27%) hit rate, 49.142% expected cash return).

Although the size of the top prize, it's current odds (remaining top prizes / estimated float), and cost should account for something, I have yet to find a way to incorporate this into a "fairness" calculation.

Inter-provincial games are a different animal. Without a way of knowing how many top prizes are remaining in a particular province, there's no way of truly evaluating them in my opinion. You really could be buying a game for which there are no top prizes remaining (in your province).

  20. Doug, any more news regarding the large discrepancy in payout percentage for Double Cash for Life? I get the same figure you do, so something must be wrong on their end.

I really hope that they are under-reporting several big winning tickets (or thousands of small ones) in the detailed breakdown, but I suspect they may simply have the payout percentage wrong. If this is the case, I think it's beyond absurd that they are advertising a higher payout percentage then the players actually receive, especially now that they have been informed of their error.
