Bejeweled and Instant Millions Vie for Top Spot

Neither game surrendered a Top Prize this past week. Bejeweled sold just over three percent of its tickets over the course of the week - 35% of the float remains. Your chances to win one of the four remaining $250,000 Top Prizes are 1:133,000. Instant Millions kept its 2 - $2 million Top Prizes in play with 39% of its tickets left to be sold. Your chances are 1:710,000 to win $1 million for a $5 investment - not bad. Remember that you can't get everything in one game. Although Instant Millions offers a better proposition for a big jackpot, only one ticket in every 7.45 sold has a prize larger than the $5 cost of the ticket. Bejeweled rewards its players with one chance in 5.13 to get a ticket worth more than its $10 cost. It comes down to personal preference - either game is a good choice.

For players who are turned off by the ticket price of the recommended games, Scrabble #1730 is a well rated game for its $3 cost. Those tickets will be hard to find as less than 10% of the float remains to be sold. Keep your eye open for them.

Games to Avoid

  • Tetris #1737

Tetris revealed its last Top Prize winner this past week. It has also revealed both of its second prizes. The most anyone can now win is $1,112 for your $3 investment. The problem for the OLG is that over 40% of its tickets remain to be sold. They will no doubt continue to sell these tickets to unsuspecting players. Readers of this blog know better!

Comings and Goings

$1 Bingo Express was retired this week. One of its $10,000 prizes was left and just under 20% of its tickets were left to be sold. Ticket sales had ground to a trickle which is likely why OLG pulled the plug.

Personal Play

I went back to my old system and bought 4-Bejeweled tickets from the same supplier. Two were winners returning $60. I have cashed 50% of the Bejeweled that I have bought and am up 15% on the game. Overall, I stand at 41% cashes and am down 9% of total funds invested so far this year.

Norm in Mississauga reports that his luck in Bejeweled started poorly and has remained there. I hope that he's at least lucky in love.

Great weather today - make a point of scratching your tickets outside.

    1. Shelley,
One reader indicated that he had won $100. I'm hoping that you'll do better than that. The most I have won is $50. I have done well with winners in Bejeweled and Turbo Cash but I can't get a good cash. Good luck with Scrabble. Keep me posted.

  3. does it make a differenc if you buy scratch tickets at places htat have high turnover vs places that don't? like some stores dont sell many scratchers like drug stores and some store like gas stations sell lots. so should i buy tickets at the places that sell the most tickets or does it matter? i think the stores that dont sell much scratchers will have older tickets and they are collecting dust. but then again, one of those dusty tickets might be a winner, so i dont know if it even matters..?

how many tickets would you typically buy at one store? like is buying 5 bejeweled tickets in a row (ie. 00,01,02,03,04) a good idea? or is it better if they are not in a sequential row? like buying odds or evens? what if you bought 3 from one store and 3 from another you would have six tickets from two different rolls. is this a better idea then getting 6 in a row from the same roll? if it is truly random then it doesn't matter, but is it truly random?

when the tickets are being printed you think they put the big winners early or late in a roll? like would a big winner more likely show up from 00-09 rather than 10-19? i think they put the big winners late in a roll but im not sure. do you think a big winner would ever be the first ticket in a roll (ie. 00)? i don't know how to find this information. when you check out the people that have won big prizes, it doesn't' show this information in their media release. it doesn't show what number their ticket was in the roll. was the $200k winning ticket a 00 (first in the roll)? or was it a 08? or a 17? if they posted this information then maybe we could see there would be a trend towards more big winners showing up late in the roll. maybe they don't want this information to be publicly known.

i noticed the number shown on the ticket, first it show the game number, then the roll number, then the ticket number. i was wondering is the roll number useful information? like on a newly released game in my city i noticed most all the roll numbers from different places are very identical. which means they were printed close together. now when they print the tickets they surely spread out the big winners so that the game will last the summer. if all the winners were won in a month then they have lost a lot of money because nobody will buy those ticket anymore. so when somebody does win a big prize, it would be nice to see what number the roll was and the number it was in the roll. with that information you can be sure to not buy any tickets that closely match that roll number, because i think they would be losing tickets. or maybe i am thinking too much about this and it doesn't' really matter.. what is your thoughts on this?

    1. Ducky,
Thanks for your message. You have given me something to think about. I was not aware of the "roll number" but I will take a look at that in the future. By rights, it should not matter where you buy tickets or how. Your chances should be the same. I don't have any reason to think that it is not and the OLG would certainly act if they found out that it was not. That said, situations have occurred in the past that have prompted the OLG to act so you can never be 100% sure. The OLG contracts with suppliers to print the tickets. I intend to get a copy of the standard contract to see what specifications are included. In terms of Top Prize tickets, I have the same concern you do. I have no reason to think that they are not distributed randomly and I have seen games where the Top Prizes go early and sometimes late. I am presently taking a look at where the Top Prizes are won to see if any pattern exists.
It pays to be skeptical about these questions but you have to remember that the OLG has a stake in making sure that players think that their games are fair. Until someone can prove otherwise, they have to receive the benefit of any doubt. Of course, they do have some blotches on their record so it's worthwhile to keep them on their toes. Best.

  4. How do you know how many tickets are remaining?? Where does the OLG post this info??

    Love the site.

    1. You're correct, the OLG does not publish the information. Instead, I estimate it by calculating the percentage of the listed prizes that are left to be claimed of the total of those same prizes that were available at the beginning of the game. For a game like QFG Crossword where there are 12,000 listed prizes, the estimate is going to be very accurate. For a game like Extravaganza, there are only 265 prizes listed which means that the estimate may be a bit off. I have tested the method by getting final games summaries from the OLG and comparing it to the estimate and it worked very well. I also intend to ask the OLG to list more prizes for the game that have low numbers of listed prizes. Hope that helps.
